Now this doesn’t mean the kids didn’t have fun... but it did mean that they were less tolerant of the challenges faced and became easily frustrated. The task presented too many strains. This is that point in that intense gym class where you get a cramp. In retrospect, recognizing that the task expectations were so much more abstract and language laden we could have:
- Restructured to include some more movement.
- Set shorter timed work intervals.
- Allotted a check in time to support reflective problem solving as a group.
The moral… know thy task, and specifically what it’s demanding of the kids.
