Why fantasy? Well, let’s break down the word itself. Fantasy takes root in the Greek pha “to shine” that grew to phaino - “to show in the light” and somewhat poetically as phantazesthai “to show at the eye or the mind” before morphing into phantasia “to make visible/power of imagination/appearance.” To indulge in fantasy is to bring uncertainty or im/possibility to the light. Many of our kids are so uncomfortable with uncertainty - the unease that comes with not knowing exactly how something might occur for better or for worse. Can you imagine how that might hinder one's capacity to problem solve, or adjust to daily life which is replete with unexpected moments?
